After yesterdays crap days windsurfing - a failed attempt to sail around Mersea Island - no wind :( it was time to take the board off the van and load up the blow-up canoe :) Mag and I arrived at Point Clear - thats twice in two days !!! at about eleven and it's sods law that it seemed breezy !!! and a kiter was going well in the lagoon !!!! but never mind.So after a cuppa the canoe was quickly ready we set off toward the lagoon,we hugged the seaward bank to get out of the wind reached the end of the lagoon before setting off up the right hand creek,it was here we saw a large flock of eggrets - 15 birds !!!!! :) We used the double paddles for the first time and were having problems with timing :( and these inflatable boats just wont paddle in the straight line and I forgot to but the fin in !!! With the tide helping us we reached the old wooden peir near the new jetty hide and after paddling up a narrow creek disturbing some mullet we stopped for a picnic :) We sat behind the hide with great veiws over the marshes for Mag to read and for me to take some pics :) After an hour and the tide nearly at it's max we paddled up a small creek to the sea and had a walk on the beach, there was an old boat up on the beach with a couple sitting by it.It was then back to the main creek and with the water now still continued to the end by the start of the Colne Point Reserve where we met the owners of the boat on the beach carrying an outboard motor and learned that their boat had slipped it's mooring at Maldon - thats miles up the estuary and the coastguard found it washed up on this remote beach, they were very lucky. They were trying to relaunch it but failed and will have to try again !!! With the tide now going out fast we half drifted, have paddled back seeing a heron and loads of gulls and huge flocks of Dunlins :) So a top top day and the sun even managed to show it's face - shame we couldn't paddle in a straight line !!!
